At House Assemblies this week we are introducing our new House Captains and other Lead Prefects. We’ve also announced the results of our 2014-15 House Championship.

The points allocated to each House reflect the individual achievements of all our pupils at the various House and inter-House events we hold. The overall House Points also include Commendation Merits.

Commendations are issued by all staff formally at regular intervals. Based on their work in class, pupils can be awarded Commendations for Respect, Responsibility and Achievement. Commendations are based on our expectations for positive behaviour and all young people can expect to receive these awards if they have continuously met these expectations for their teachers. Additionally, any pupil may receive a Commendation at any time for demonstrating our values in any aspect of their school life. For the purposes of Commendations, our value of Achievement includes Attainment.

We also issue Achievement Merits. Achievements are recognised separately. These are given to any pupil, at any time, by any member of staff in recognition of achievements outside of the classroom. This includes extra-curricular activities.

From next session, we will continue to award Commendation and Achievement Awards to pupils at our Awards Ceremonies. These are available in four categories: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. We will also introduce Commendation and Achievement Merits that can be issued by teachers and other staff at any time.

Curriculum for Excellence requires that all schools recognise and acknowledge the curricular, extra-curricular and wider achievements of all pupils. Pupils are required to record these at the end of S3 as part of their Personal Profile. At the end of S5 or S6 students also have to write about their achievements beyond the classroom when applying for jobs, apprenticeships, training, college or university. Introducing these Merits will ensure pupils are aware immediately of how their achievements have been recognised and to keep these in their journals or planners for future reference.

Our annual award ceremonies for all pupils in S1 to S5 take place in the week beginning 23 June. More details will be issued shortly.
