On Thursday 14th May, the S1 and S2 ‘School of Football’ pupils visited Hampden Park for a 7 aside football tournament and a tour of the national stadium. Leaving at 7:30am, the boys travelled down the A9 by bus, eagerly looking forward to the day ahead of them which was for many their first time visiting Hampden.
Upon arrival at Hampden, the S1 boys got integrated with the other S1 ‘school of football’ pupils at schools across the country and took part in a mini 7 a-side tournament on the 3G astro at Lesser Hampden which is overlooked by the stadium itself. After an hour of football, it was time for a quick lunch break, before the S2 pupils got their chance to step on the pitch for their 7 a-side tournament. They also got integrated with the other ‘school of football’ pupils from across the country and played for an hour or so.
After the conclusion of the tournament the pupils then got a tour of Hampden Park. As well as getting to go pitch side, pupils got to see the changing rooms, the indoor warm up area and the dugouts which gave them an insight to what it is like ‘behind the scenes’ on a match day. The tour concluded with a visit of the football museum at Hampden.
Leaving Hampden just after 3pm, the bus then made the trip back up the A9 (stopping off at McDonalds at Perth for some much needed food) and arrived back at Charleston at 7:30.
A great day out had by all and now some of the boys can even say they have played and scored a goal at Hampden!
