A total of 10 pupils attended this one day course to raise awareness of Careers in the Construction Industry. With presentations and practical workshops the pupils gained an insight in to the variety of trades that come together in the construction industry and gained hands on experience which included plumbing, joinery, electrician and bricklaying.
The simulator for training plant operators was popular and X Box skills were put to good use! There is a range of academic levels involved from the man who left school at 16 to work as a labourer to the staff working in Architecture or Building Services Engineering – each level has an important contribution to make to the overall result. It was good to catch up with Fraser Hendrie who is a former pupil and Electrician with Barneys.
Fraser won a National Apprentice of the Year competition and his firm flew him back from Shetland for the event. Gillian Clark our school Careers Adviser from SDS attended and helped the day run smoothly.
Overall a very worthwhile day enjoyed by everyone who attended and came away with lots of ideas about rewarding careers in the construction industry.
