Charleston Academy 0-3 Nicolson Institute
Charleston crashed out of the North of Scotland Cup to the Nicolson Institute at the quarter final stage for the second year running, losing 3-0 at home. Charleston started the game very brightly and Ronan Cousins had a great chance to open the scoring in the opening five minutes but fired his effort just wide. Charleston then found themselves one down when Nicolson scored with their first attack of the game. Charleston pressed for an equaliser and Reece Paterson drove a shot straight at their goalkeeper before Ross Harrison forced the goalkeeper into a magnificent one handed save with a stinging free kick which was tipped just over the bar. Again like the first goal, as Charleston pressed for an equaliser, Nicolson broke and against the run of play and Charleston found themselves 2-0 down when Nicolson converted a penalty. After half time, efforts from Jack Hosie, Ronan Cousins and Robbie MacLennan forced their goalkeeper into saves as Charleston desperately searched for a goal back. It wasn’t to be Charleston’s day as Reece Paterson then struck a wonderful free kick which cannoned back off the post. Late on, Nicolson scored a third to kill the game off and end Charleston’s magnificent cup run at the quarter final stage for the second successive year.
