Y-Dance is Scotland’s National Youth Dance Organisation. On Monday last week the group visited Charleston Academy all day to provide a range of workshops for pupils.
As Scotland’s only National Youth Dance Organisation, Y-Dance aims to give every young person in Scotland the opportunity to realise their potential as individuals through dance.
The girls who took part had the opportunity to learn and develop choreography for a performance which included two dances. They covered two dance styles; Hip Hop and Contemporary.
The purpose of the day was to inspire female pupils to take part in dance as well as to develop confidence and other vital skills such as communication and team work. The day was a huge success which was evident from the performance the girls were able to give to a number of staff at the end of the day. It was great to see such a huge achievement in such a short space off time.
The opportunity the girls now have is to gain a qualification in Level 1 Dance Leadership which will lead to further opportunities to assist and support dance programmes with younger children in primary schools.
Great effort girls!!!
