Man of the Match – Alasdair Stark
Charleston battled back from 2 goals down to earn a fantastic 3-2 win and progress into the Quarter Finals of the North of Scotland Cup last week. Charleston started the game positively but went behind due to a freak goal where goalkeeper Azhar Khan’s kick was blocked and then rolled into the empty net. The game then got rather scrappy with neither team able to mount any serious pressure. Out of the blue, Charleston found themselves 2-0 down due to an unstoppable half volley into the top corner. Then just as half time was approaching, Ally Stark pulled a goal back to bring Charleston back into the game. This gave Charleston a huge boost and they went on to dominate the second half. Reece Paterson had the opportunity to draw Charleston level but seen his spot kick well saved after Scott MacKintosh had been felled in the box. Paterson was to redeem himself 15 minutes later by dribbling his way through the Kingussie midfield and then letting fly with an effort from 25 yards which flew into the top corner to draw the game at 2-2. Charleston continued to press and got their rewards for an excellent second half performance when Ally Stark smashed home an unstoppable left footed drive off the underside off the bar 5 minutes from time to send the Charleston players into jubilant celebrations. Ross Harrison could have added a fourth late on had he not seen his superb 25 yard effort cannon off the bar. However, the fourth goal was not to come and Charleston won the game 3-2 to book a place in the last 8 of the North of Scotland Cup.
