U14 boys get their league campaign off to a flying start

Getting off the bus after our 1 hour 40 minute journey the team seemed to be in quite high spirits and eager to get playing. The boys got changed as quickly as they could and headed out to start a short but thorough warm-up.
When the game kicked off both teams started well with much of the play being held up in the middle of the park. Both teams looked evenly matched in terms of size and ability from the off. It was midway through the first half when Charleston started to flex their muscles and began to dominate the final third. Lewis Jamieson and Cameron Kent began to work well together and made some superb passes to the attacking players. The Lochaber keeper was a tall boy who needed every inch of his height to keep out some fantastic efforts from Callum Mead and Kevin Johnstone . Lochaber started to feel the pressure and switched to a long ball game. Aiden MacKenzie in goals had a scare when a Lochaber shot zipped across the short wet grass and nearly crossed the goal line. With 10 minutes left in the first half the deadlock was finally broken which started with a pinpoint pass from Captain Lewis Jamieson towards Calum Mead on the wing. Callum dribbled into the box and fired a low hard shot towards the near post. The Lochaber keeper was equal to the fantastic effort and made a fingertip save only to roll it into the path of Kevin Johnstone who was following up the shot and made a simple side footed pass into the back of the net. Lochaber 0 v 1 Charleston was the score going in at half time.
A few changes were made at half time and the team went out and started the second half the same way they ended the first. Moments into the second half Stuart Lamont got himself on the score sheet with what started with great play form midfield. The Charleston Academy defensive line was questioned at times but Mark Kelly and Jamie Penwright both remained strong and saw away any danger from Lochaber. Stuart Lamont earned a brace of goals when another perfectly placed cross from Iain MacKenzie meet Stuart’s right boot. As the game was coming to a close a few more substitutes were made. Moments before Callum Mead was going to come off he was rewarded for all his hard work with a goal. In typical Callum Mead style it started with Calum demonstrating great speed and stamina to chase the ball down and get himself into an attacking position.
The game ended with Charleston winning 4 – 0 and a popular man of the match performance by Callum Mead.
The team are now looking forward to their next game due to be played next week versus Kingussie High School.
