Scottish Schools Orienteering Championships 2013

On Friday 7 June, eight CHAOS (CHarleston Academy Orienteering Squad) members travelled to Hopetoun House near Edinburgh to compete in the Scottish Schools Orienteering Championships.

The courses were fast paced and the competition strong, but team spirit was high. In orienteering there are no ‘personal bests’ as terrain and courses are variable from competition to competition, but if there was such a thing then I’m sure that each one of the pupils would have come away with a new PB.

Charleston Academy 3rd place in Overall School Results

SONY DSCAll 8 pupils made the qualifying times to count for the overall school results, in which Charleston came third. I would go as far as to say that this fantastic result is not only due to individually doing well on the day, but also due to the feel good factor of a team that is so encouraging and supportive towards each other. Well done to Stuart Dingwall (S5), Callum White (S4), Hannah Farman (S4), Rowan White (S2), Kieran Watts (S2), Daniel Lamont(S2), Kate Farman (S2), Siobhan Gebicke-Kerr (S2).

Charleston Academy 2nd place in Team Results for S2 Boys

We had only one team this year and boy did they do well! The S2 boys who came third last year leapt up to 2nd place this year. Across the three counting runners they placed only ten minutes behind first place but were nearly an hour ahead of third place! Well done boys – Rowan White, Kieran Watts and Daniel Lamont.

Charleston Academy 1st and 3rd in Individual Results

Congratulations to Rowan White who came 1st in S2 Boys and to Hannah Farman who came 3rd in S4 Girls!

Local training and competition will continue with the next big races being the British Schools Championships in November this year.
