Augsburg – Inverness Twinning Lunch

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Achievements, Personal, Wider Curriculum

It’s been a busy month for staff in our Home Economics Department. As well as our annual Albert Roux Charity Dinner, Friday 9th September saw the school welcome guests from Augsburg in Bavaria as part of 60th Anniversary of the Augsburg – Inverness Twinning Link.

Working with Chefs from UHI, Hospitality students produced and served a two course lunch for over 40 people.

Guests included the Bergermeister (Mayor) and his party as well as business leaders and community members from Augsburg. From Inverness, Chair of the Twinning Association Former Councillor David Henderson, Depute Provost Councillor Jean Slater, our local Councillor Graham Ross and Inverness City Manager David Haas all attended.

Head Girl Siobhan Gebicke-Kerr welcomed the guests in German, and Rector Chris O’Neill and Depute Provost Councillor Jean Slater also spoke.

Our guests were overwhelmed by their welcome and the food and later reflected that it was the highlight of their trip to Inverness.

Dear Chris
The Provost would like to thank you for hosting a marvellous Lunch last week for our friends from Augsburg. The excellence of the welcome from your Team, the professionalism of the Pupils and the high quality of the food was clear for all to see and greatly impressed the Bergermeister and his Party.

David Haas, Inverness City Manager

Dear Chris
On behalf of the Inverness Town Twinning Committee and our guests from Augsburg, I must thank you, your staff and especially your pupils for the delightful lunch that you provided us on Friday.
The meal itself was a real treat, beautifully prepared and delivered. But the whole experience was charmingly enhanced by the genuine welcome, and the capability and maturity demonstrated by the students in every aspect of the occasion – menu selection, food preparation, table service, music (piping and fiddling) and spoken address. It was an impressive display, which would have graced any restaurant in the city, and you have every right to be very proud of them. Please convey to them all our warm congratulations and thanks.

David Henderson, Chair of Augsburg – Inverness Twinning Association
