Pupil Support

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Important Announcements

There are some changes to our current Pupil Support Team. Mrs Susan Ritson retires at the end of November. During her absence Mrs Heather MacRae  will be Acting Guidance PT for Torridon. Additionally Mr Ryan MacKintosh is currently Acting Guidance PT for Laggan during Miss Jaffray’s absence.

Please remember that your child’s Guidance PT should always be the first point of contact with the school.

Please see our Pupil Support page for more details about this and our Extended Pupil Support which also contains a number of changes.

Made in Movember – over £600 raised

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Achievements

UPDATE: Well done to all our staff and pupils taking part or donating. A total of £665.48 was raised for the November Campaign on behalf of men’s health.

Over the course of the month brave members of staff and many of our prefects have been cultivating marvellous moustaches. This has all been part of the Movember Campaign that aims to raise awareness of men’s health issues and raise funds for charity.

This Friday 28 November pupils will get their chance to take part – with as many of them as possible wearing stick on moustaches for the day.

Fake moustaches are available to buy for a £1 donation to the charity. They’ll be on sale at interval and lunchtime. Following the formal staff photo on Thursday, all of our staff played their part, donning fake stick-on moustaches or proudly displaying their efforts to grow one over the past month. Well done to all the staff taking part.

This is a fantastic campaign with incredibly worthwhile aims. Please find out more or make a donation via the Movember website.

Staff Development at Badaguish

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Achievements

A group of Charleston Academy teachers are spending the weekend at the Highland Council outdoor centre at Badaguish. The focus of the weekend however is not outdoor learning but leadership. Staff are focussing on their role as leaders of learning and reflecting on their values, leadership styles and their own personal and professional development.

The workshops during the weekend are led by members of the Senior Management Team and Ms Mairi Sutherland who also coordinates the whole weekend. A similar weekend is held at the start of each session for our Lead Prefect Team too. This is the fourth Staff Development Weekend we’ve held at Badaguish and more then thirty staff have now participated in the weekend workshops or the full week long series of activities we have held at Columba14000 on Skye  three times now.

These development activities are important personally and professionally for participating staff but also for the whole school as we continue to embed our Core Values of Respect, Responsibility and Achievement in all that we aspire to do.

Gangnam Style

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Important Announcements

Charleston Academy staff performed Gangnam Style once again in front of the whole school, packed into the Hall, at lunchtime on Thursday 27th March. The group agreed to the performance on condition that further funds were raised for our Connecting Classrooms exchange with Lotsane Senior Secondary School in Botswana. Along with the fashion show on Wednesday evening over £2000 was raised. Well done everybody.
