Shinty – The MacPherson Cup

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Achievements

On Thursday 23 May, the Charleston U14s entered a 12-a-side squad in the shinty tournament for the MacPherson Cup down in Fort William.

It was a good day, a bit chilly but the sun was out. We got off to a slow start drawing with Portree 0-0 and Loch Gilphead 1-1. We then got into the swing of things and went on to beat Dingwall 3-0. We found our hardest opponent – Lochaber – in the final game and, sadly, lost. However, it was a great day, lots of good shinty and at least we came third!

Shinty

Charleston’s U14 Shinty team recently took part in the six-a-side tournament for the Robertson Cup at Glen Urquhart High School, Drumnadrochit.

We got off on a slow start as we faced our two hardest opponents, Lochaber and Kingussie, with narrow defeats. We made our comeback against Glen B with a 7-1 victory and went on to beat Glen A and Dingwall. We were beaten in our last game against Skye.

Goal of the day goes to Robbie Brindle 2S2, Lee Dunbar crossed the ball in perfectly and Robbie finished it off with a volley right into the back of the net, an awe inspiriting strike.

With thanks to the players, Ian Rankin (2T), Craig Rankin (2S2), Robbie Brindle (2S2), Darren Douglas (2L1), Lee Dunbar (2L1), John Williamson (2L1), Daniel Lamont (2K2) and Liam Eaton (3T1) as we came third overall.
