Rock Challenge Final

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Achievements, Wider Curriculum

Congratulations to our Rock Challenge ensemble who were competing in the Scottish Finals of Rock Challenge UK 2014 at the Caird Hall in Dundee on Thursday 12th June.

Despite a 5am departure from Inverness by coach with set, sound equipment, lighting, and their costumes for a performance slot after 9pm, the ensemble had a fantastic day and put on a wonderful performance.

The ensemble added Awards for Excellence for their Soundtrack and Lighting and judges commended their choreography. All ten finalist schools were outstanding with Arbroath High School winning this year.

Director of Education Hugh Fraser said of the Charleston ensemble, “their performance was excellent and I was so pleased that their efforts were recognised in the range of Excellence Awards they were presented with.”

The video of the performance at Caird Hall, Dundee is available temporarily.

Rock Challenge 2014

After months of dedicated rehearsals, our Rock Challenge performers, crew and staff excelled again on Friday 28th February during the UK North heats of the 2014 Rock Challenge.

The Charleston Academy company won second place overall, a remarkable achievement considering our senior girls choreographed the whole show themselves without assistance from any professionals.

An amazing cross-curricular team supported the performers and crew. From Music, PT Mrs Fiona Stuart and Mr Scott Nairn worked with Mr Rob Seymour from Technical and Mr Gordan Corrance in Art to put on an outstanding show. The company won awards for excellence in five top categories: Soundtrack, Drama Production, Stage Use, Original Concept, and Costumes & Characters.

Along with Alness Academy who won, the company now travel to the Scottish Finals in Dundee later this session.
