Badaguish Outdoor Challenge

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Achievements, Personal, Wider Curriculum

Well done to all the young people from Charleston Academy who took part in the Badaguish Youth Outdoor Challenge this weekend.

This is a charity event raising money for the Speyside Trust, a respite centre with specialised facilities that allows disabled people to experience the Cairngorms in its full glory. Pupils raise their own sponsorship and cover costs to compete in the event.

Well done to the following 16 pupils taking part this year. They represented the school marvellously and between them have raised nearly £1000 so far – a significant contribution overall.

Kishorn – Chloe Fraser (5K1), Paddy McEwen (6K1), Aaron Murphy (4K1), Marc Williamson (4K2)

Laggan – Euan MacDonald (4L1), Paige Maclellan (4L2), Sirena Rattray (5L1) Andrew Johnstone (6L1)

Badaguish Outdoor Challenge 2015

It’s the Badaguish Outdoor Challenge this weekend. Charleston Academy has five teams taking part in the event, which is open to schools from all over the north of Scotland. It’s organised by the Speyside Trust at Badaguish and the money raised through participating contributes to a fund to allow people with disabilities to experience an outdoor residential trip or holiday.

Teams taking part must camp out and prepare and cook all their own food. The event involves a two-day trail finding course for teams of three who have to navigate 15km each day on tracks & paths in the Glenmore Forest.

Good Luck to the five teams from Charleston Academy. The change to cooler weather, sleet and snow, has certainly added to the challenge. Well done everyone for taking part. Thankfully the snow stayed away until it was time to come home!

Congratulations to the Charleston Academy Team of Pollyanna Grey, Arianne Ross and Catriona Forsyth. The girls, calling themselves “Breaking Bad-aguish”, were the winning female team in the Badaguish Outdoor Challenge this weekend.

The event took place at Badaguish from 5pm on Friday to late on Sunday. The challenge is a trail-finding event over two days, navigating 12km of countryside each day. Teams also have to camp and cook for themselves during the event. The Charleston girls team was accompanied by staff Mr Steven Tillman, Mr Shaun Foster, Miss Ashleigh Crawford, and Miss Rhonna Glynn. Well done everyone.
