Last month, S6 student Alison Horne (6T) attended the Caledonian Powerlifting Championships in Dundee. Previously Alison has won medals at various events. However she beat all expectations at Dundee winning in several rounds and breaking several Scottish records.

Alison broke the British Bench Record in the under-18 class and also set new under-21 Scottish records for the Bench Press, Deadlift, and Squat. Alison, who was recently appointed to our Lead Prefect Team is a dedicated and inspiring athlete. Congratulations and well done Alison.

photoS3 pupil Alison Horne (4T2) has been selected to throw shot putt for the Scottish Schools’ Athletic Association. This competition will see Scottish schools competing against schools from England, Ireland, and Wales. The event takes place at Santry Stadium in Dublin on 20 July.

Alison was selected to represent Scotland on the back of her performance at the Scottish Schools Athletics Championships were she won a Silver medal in the U-17 girls Shot Putt. Alison is eligible for this age group again next year.

Alison threw 9.76m and the winner threw 9.82m. Alison is pictured with her medal and also her badge standard. Competitors only receive these if they reach a required standard in their event. This is normally set very high and not many competitors receive these. Best wishes to Alison for success in Dublin.

Alison Horne (3T2): Shot Put Gold Medal Winner

All the pupils put in outstanding performances at the event. However Alison Horne did particularly well. Alison won Gold in her shot put event by throwing a new personal best of 10.80m, beating her previous personal best by 36cm.  Her closest rival finished 89cm behind!

Katie Stark competed in the same event as Alison and finished just outside the medals in 4th place with a distance of 9.44m. These were fantastic performances.

The school is extremely grateful for the parents of the pupils involved who took them to the event and supported them throughout.
