Exotic Animal Rescue Fundraiser

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Wider Curriculum

Charleston Academy Pupils have been busy raising money for a new and unique partnership with the locally based charity Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue at Cantraybridge. The pupils raised over £400 to support the work of the charity through a sponsored walk and will be participating in future fundraising events.

In return Nick Martin and his vast array of animals work with pupils to provide unique learning opportunities. Students also visit the rescue centre regularly where they are developing skills for work and the wider world whilst working with the animals. It has been a very unique, successful and productive partnership that Charleston Academy and Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue are keen to develop.

Tree Safety

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Achievements, Curriculum, Personal, Wider Curriculum

A group of Charleston Academy pupils recently discovered dangerous fallen trees in the community woodlands south of the school They decided to write to our local councillors to ensure swift action was taken to make the trees safe. Well done to the pupils for their action and help with the tree surgeons to ensure the fallen tree was dealt with safely.

Earlier this session the pupils arranged a litter pick in the same woods. Caithin, Timothy, Lara and Kiran were very concerned that members of the community, including other school pupils, had been very careless with their litter. It was their idea to organise a litter-pick which was very much appreciated by others in our community who use the woods.
