Chemistry is undoubtedly one of the most important subject areas in the modern world. In fact, we are all chemists. We use chemicals every day and perform chemical reactions without even realising it.
You are made up entirely of chemicals. From the complex processes of breathing and eating to simply sitting and reading a book, chemical reactions are keeping you alive. Chemists have made the materials that have driven the technological advances that make our lives easier.
The Chemistry Department of Charleston Academy strives to enthuse pupils in all things Chemistry. We offer a range of levels that pupils can study at, from Access 3 up to Advanced Higher.
There is a clear path of progression through these levels if the pupils can demonstrate an increasingly sound understanding of the subject.
There are many careers that can be accessed through a degree in Chemistry. Here are a few; Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Forensics, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetics, Food Technology, Material Science, Research science and Teaching. Having a solid foundation in Chemistry will also help pupils who want to go on to study physics and biology or any of the Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics fields.
