Sponsored Walk For School Funds

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Achievements, Important Announcements, Wider Curriculum

All money raised through sponsorship in our annual Sponsored Walk has now been banked. A huge thank you to everyone – pupils, parents, relatives, friends and others – in our school community who has contributed in any way. Over £9000 was raised this year which is excellent. This money contributes to our School Fund which pays for all of our Extra / Wider Curricular Activities, funds our School Minibus, and allows us to significantly off-set the cost of Activities Days for pupils in S1 to S3. Recently school funds have also assisted us in purchasing iPads and other equipment across the school too.

Shiel Take House Points Lead

The money raised is converted into House Points too. Shiel and Laggan Houses have done well with Shiel now in the lead and Laggan moving up into third place.

Well done to Mrs Robertson’s 2S Class which raised the most money overall – £571 in total. They will receive a prize of cinema and pizza or similar activity shortly. Well done too to Emily Hunter (3T1) who raised the most money – £111 in total. This is an amazing figure and if replicated across the school would see over £80,00 raised for school funds.

The school is indebted to the generosity in our community for their contributions to this and also for all our charitable work which is significant in the run up to Christmas. Next week we support Children in Need and this will be followed in December by our Annual Hamper Appeal.

Remembrance at Charleston Academy

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Important Announcements

Friday 11th November is Armistice Day. At 11am that day we will hold a two minute period of reflective silence in school. This will be preceded by a piped lament by three of our pipers.

All of this week our House Assemblies will be on the theme of Remembrance and are being led by pupils who recently attended the Battlefield Trip to Belgium. It’s a pleasure to welcome special guests to each of these assemblies.

On Sunday 13th November our Head Boy and Head Girl will lay a wreath at the War Memorial in Inverness. The centre piece of the wreath this year has been designed by Jodie Keiro-Kirk (6L).

Finally, Senior Prefects will also read out the Binyons Words and Kohima Epitaph on behalf of the Royal British Legion at a special service at Highland Council Headquarters on 11th November.

Torridon Assembly

This morning at the Torridon Assembly our guests were Mr Joe Davidson, President of the Royal British Legion Inverness and Mr Roddy Wood also from the Royal British Legion, Councillor Graham Ross, and Staff Sergeant Kenny Mackintosh from the Army.

Adverse Weather Arrangements

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Important Announcements

All of our students received this letter today. It outlines arrangements that will be put in place if adverse winter weather means we cannot open the school normally. It also explains how all parents and carers can ensure they are fully informed of any arrangements we have to put in place. Please make sure you are familiar with its contents.

The same information is contained in our Adverse Weather Page, which also has hyperlinks to relevant social media / third party websites.

Pupils who went on the Battlefield Trip will lead our House Assemblies next week with guests including our local Councillors, the Provost of Inverness, members of the Royal British Legion and serving members of the armed forces.

Our Poppy Scotland appeal begins in school next week. Poppies will be available for a donation to Poppy Scotland at each House Assembly.
