Miss Rona Macpherson, Depute Rector

Miss Macpherson was appointed as Depute Rector at Charleston Academy in 2011, prior to which she was Principal Teacher of Pupil Support (Guidance) at Waid Academy in Fife.  Originally from Wick, she moved to Inverness during her final two years of school.  It was during this time that she became an ardent Caley Thistle supporter, an interest that would eventually take her back to the Highlands.  She studied Physics at Aberdeen University and began her teaching career in 1993, teaching Physics and Maths in Fife. In 1997 she was appointed as Assistant Principal Teacher of Guidance at Waid Academy before becoming Principal Teacher there in 2005.  During this time she also completed a Past Graduate Certificate in Guidance and Pupil Support.

Miss Macpherson is Year Head for S3 and S6 pupils and is House Leader for Torridon.  Her remit includes overall responsibility for Pupil Support.  She works closely with outside agencies to ensure Charleston Academy is able to provide the quality of support for all of our pupils outlined in the Getting it Right for Every Child policy (GIRFEC).  In 2011 she accompanied pupils and staff from Charleston Academy on a leadership course at Columba-1400 on Skye.  Inspired by their work there, this group have gone on to plan and develop our new House System, re-launched our Pupil Council and Year Group Committees, and have firmly established our school values at the heart of our vision for what we do. Miss Macpherson oversees this important work. She also manages our Primary 7 transition process and new enrolments as well as having responsibility for Numeracy across the Curriculum.
