We have a successful and developing partnership with Rowan Waste Action. We work with Rowan to reduce our food waste at Charleston Academy. Rowan work with our own staff who are already involved in a number of successful and inspiring initiatives:
- Our Successful and appraised composting scheme for cooked and uncooked food.
- The development of our Polytunnel for growing fruit and vegetables
- Fruit Growing – we grow fruit in the school grounds which is used in our canteen (try the canteen’s Apple Crumble!)
- The near elimination of polystyrene and cardboard packaging in our canteen – since late 2013 everything is now plated.
Please visit Rowan’s own detailed website and the R U Up 4 It Blog which focusses on empowering young people to take action to reduce waste.
Our School Eco Group and our Rural Skills teachers are working closely with Rowan on several projects – watch out for information about these soon.
