Norman Drummond, Founder, Columba-1400
Charleston Academy has worked in partnership with Columba-1400 on Skye for several years now. In that time three groups, each consisting of 12 pupils and 4 staff, have attended three different Leadership Academies. Each of these Academies has had its own focus.
The work of pupils and staff at one of the initial Leadership Academies established Charleston Academy’s Core Values.
In 2011, Depute Rector Miss Macpherson, teachers Mrs Ritson, Mr Foster and Mrs Gordon were accompanied by 12 pupils and Mr O’Neill for a week long visit to Skye. The outcome of that Leadership Academy has been significant work to develop and firmly establish our Values in the policies and practices of the school. This has been done by introducing House Assemblies, Class (Tutor/Registration) Representatives, Year Group Committees and a new Pupil Council. Our Values also underpin our expectations for Positive Behaviour.
A team of Lead Prefects has been introduced. Staff are co-opted onto pupil committees to work with them, and we have extended our Leadership Workshops by introducing our own value focused weekends for our Lead Prefect Teams and Staff at various times of the year. These take place at Badaguish.
