Dear Parent of S4-6 Pupil
Your child is now part of the school cohort that will be undertaking SQA qualifications. As a school we are very keen to support your child through this year and so I’d like to invite you to a curriculum / study support evening on Wednesday 29th August at 7 pm. This will be an opportunity to hear more about qualifications and practical advice that can help you support your child. The bulk of the evening will be an opportunity to meet subject staff to find out specifics about courses and assessment.
Staff will be giving detailed advice for study. There is a good range of online resources to support pupils, for example:
- BBC bitesize
- Google Classroom
- SQA past papers and marking schemes
- and in some cases youtube.
The key partnership for exam success is three way: the school, the parent and the youngster.
Effective study is a crucial part of exam preparation. Simply put – one mark can be enough to make the difference between a Grade B or A, or Grade C or D etc. I understand that it is not always easy for parents to support this. However, if parents are giving a consistent message then it can be easier to manage at home.
As a school we recognise that a productive pressure is a good thing but that exam stress is something we need to support pupils with. If this becomes a concern then I would encourage you to contact your child’s Guidance teacher.
I look forward to welcoming you to the school next week.
