The North of Scotland Schools Senior Debating Competition commenced on Tuesday at Glen Urquhart High School.

The first round saw Charleston on team proposition for the motion This house believes that young people have never contributed so little. They supported Nairn Academy and Glen Urquhart in this stance, whilst opposing were Fortrose Academy, Portree High School, and Forres Academy.

The standard of debate – for a first round in particular – was incredibly strong, and audience members were impressed by all. Morvern Carmichael and Samantha Cochrane were ultimately awarded five points (from a maximum of six) by the judges and commended for their preparation, partnership, and overall poise at the lectern.

The second round will take place at Nairn Academy on October 4th where Morvern and Samantha will be proposition for the motion This house believes that Robin Hood was right.

Well done and good luck for round two!
