Book Group Visit

Written by Charleston Academy on . Posted in Curriculum, Wider Curriculum

On Wednesday 25th January the S2 book group, assisted by our 2 S6 helpers went, with Mrs King, to Millburn Academy. We went to discuss the short listed books as part of the process for voting for the Teenage Book Award. We met Millburn’s group and had a very tasty lunch (soup, sandwiches and loads of biscuits!). We did a few little group exercises so that we could get to know each other better. We talked about what sort of books we like, why we joined the book group and other things like this. Eventually we started talking about the books that were shortlisted for the prize and which ones were our favourites. Logan and Mrs Phillips put a good case forward for ‘Silver Skin’ but the rest of the group felt that ‘Black Cairn Point’ deserved to win. It was good fun to see what everyone else thought about all the books – including those that didn’t make it onto the final BookTrust shortlist. The BookTrust will announce the overall winner on 1st March.

We had a really good time and enjoyed the trip. We’d love to do it again!
