Charleston Academy Knights 47 – 7 Inverness High School Predators
The 2016 Highland Academy Community league kicked off with a rematch of last years final, between the Charleston Academy Knights and the Inverness High School Predators. This end result was a complete reversal of last years Predators win.
The Knights set the tone immediately with a big defensive play from linebacker Ronan Melens, tackling the Predators running back in their own end zone for a safety. This was the start of an MVP performance for Melens, who made a number of big defensive plays throughout the game. Afterwards, the Knights offense proved unstoppable. New starting quarterback Calvin Campbell, taking over from last years player of the year Euan Crawford, started the offensive scoring with a touchdown pass to debutant wide reciever Reece Stewart. This was followed by 4 touchdown runs – two by returnee running back Craig Robertson, and three by Anthony Arenas, on an extremely impressive debut for the team. The remaining points were scored on another defensive safety by linebacker Kieran Watts, and 2 point conversions by Robertson, center Fergus Macintyre, and receiver Lewis Hilditch. In the end, the 48-7 final score illustrated the Knights dominance.
Charleston Academy Knights 47 – 12 Inverness Royal Academy Sharks
The second match-up was against the Inverness Royal Academy Sharks. Once again the Knights dominated the match from the first whistle. Craig Robertson capped an impressive days work with 2 more touchdown runs, the first going the entire length of the field. This was followed by 4 touchdown passes from quarterback Calvin Campbell – one to receiver Lewis Hilditch, and three to receiver Reece Stewart – earning MVP honours on an extremely impressive first day for the new Knights player. In the second half, the Knights eased off a little to allow a couple of Sharks consolation touchdowns before the scoring was completed on a touchdown run by running back Arenas. Final score, another convincing victory for the Knights: 47-12.
Week 2 of the season sees the Knights face off against the Black Isle Stags and the Culloden Academy Raptors. Both matches are on this Saturday (20th), kicking off at 12.00 and 2.30pm respectively.
