New Albert Roux Apprentice

Congratulations to Ronan Melens (6S). Ronan has just been offered and accepted an apprenticeship with our Chefs Adopt a School partnership, the Albert Roux Consultancy. Ronan becomes our fifth pupil to be offered such a prestigious apprenticeship in four years.

Mr Roux’s Executive Chef, Mr Mike Matheson visited school last week to deliver demonstrations and offered the opportunity to Ronan having seen him at work in school previously over the past few years.

Ronan also helps with our after-school HE Club. The 1st Year after school club gives the 1st Years the chance to cook things that are out-with their curriculum in a more relaxed way as its not the same as with a teachers lesson during school time. It allows 1st years to cook alongside pupils who may not be in their classes, so it gives them the opportunity to create new friendships. Myself (Ronan) and Joe Maclean decided to start this club with the help of some other senior pupils to give the 1st Years these opportunities. From running the club we hope to gain life skills such as teamworking, leadership, time keeping and planning that will help further on with our lives. It also creates a link between 1st years and a senior member of school so that they know that they have someone older to speak to.
