The under 16 team had their first outing of the season and competed in the 6 aside Tournament hosted by Glenurquhart High School. A total of 9 teams took part including teams from Skye, Fort William, Kingussie and Arnamurchan.
Charleston got off to the worst possible start and despite their pressure lost out to hosts Glenurquhart 1 – 0 who scored a breakaway goal. The team recorded wins against Polockton and Ardnamurchan when Danny Kelly and Robbie Brindle linked up well and scored freely. Unfortunately Dingwall were too strong on the day in the last league game and Charleston were eliminated.
The 12 aside Wade cup is due next and the team have showed enough promise and with the addition of extra players will be looking forward to the challenge.
Training continues on a Thursday at lunchtime and with Mr Tillman and Miss Crawford helping the turn-out has been excellent. Let’s keep this up. We are considering having a girls team also with a number showing interest.
A special mention for Danny Kelly 4T as Captain of the under 16 team Danny has had an excellent season playing for Lovat who achieved second place in the Premier League. Danny received the Scottish under 14 player of the year last season. As well as playing shinty at the highest possible level Danny plays football for the Senior team and Ross County.
In his support for the school he rushed back from the Shinty Tournament to play for the Senior Football team v Nairn.
Well done Danny keep up this fantastic level of performance and attitude.
