A team of thirty three pupils from Charleston Academy travelled to Gordonstoun for the annual North of Scotland Schools Cross Country Championships. Over 400 pupils from the North took part in the event, which was held in cool but bright conditions.
Charleston had pupils competing in all 6 competitions. First to run was the ‘D’ girls competition, which included our first year. The team was made up of Helena Waye, Anna Louise Mackenzie, Danielle Ross, Olivia Cairns, Jemima Morris and Samantha Cochrane. All girls put in a superb effort!
In the ‘D’ boys competition (first year), Jake Fraser-Lee, Calum Mead, Cameron Kent, Lewis MacGillivray, Aaron Fraser, Tom Kinghorn and Josh Malcolm all put in a fantastic effort with Aaron Fraser finishing first out of the team and coming an overall 12th position. With all players finishing very early on the team secured second place overall.
Ally Velzian, in the ‘C’ boys event put in a fantastic effort and managed to secure 4th place overall. The rest of the ‘C’ boys, Rowan White, Finlay Forsyth, Lewis Hilditch, Criag and Ian Rankin all put in great performances.
The ‘C’ girls, Chloe Jaffrey, Amy Riddle, Sophie Fraser also put in good performances and they will have another few years in this age group.
Callum White, Alex Byham, Andrew Johnstone, Paddy McEwen and Ally Stark who made up the ‘B’ boys team all performed exceptionally and finished 3rd place overall. With a number of these boys still being in 3rd year and competing against 5th and 6th year pupils this was a great performance.
Lastly, the ‘B’ girls who consisted of Tamara MacDougall, Lucy Forsyth, Rebecca Morris, Melissa Fife, Annie Mackenzie and Jenna Bisset all ran well and finished in 4th position.
All the runners put in a great effort and were a credit to the school. Well done everyone!
